Behind Every Stitch: How Our Linen Garments Are Made

When you purchase a piece from Dune, you're not just buying a linen garment—you're investing in the hands, skills, and dedication of the people who bring each design to life.

We believe that beautiful clothing starts with thoughtful craftsmanship, which is why we proudly work with trusted local CMT (Cut, Make & Trim) partners who share our commitment to quality.

It Starts With Thoughtful Design

Every garment begins as an idea. We carefully develop timeless silhouettes that are designed to be worn season after season, rather than following fast-moving trends.

Once a design has been perfected, patterns are created, samples are fitted, and every detail is refined to ensure the final garment feels effortless to wear.

Choosing the Right Linen

We use 100% linen because it's one of nature's most remarkable fabrics.

Linen is breathable, durable, naturally temperature regulating, and becomes softer with every wash. It's a fabric made to last, developing character over time rather than wearing out.

Because linen is a natural fibre, every roll has its own subtle texture and character, making each garment uniquely beautiful.

Precision Cutting

Once an order is placed, the fabric is carefully laid out and cut according to our patterns.

This stage requires precision to ensure the garment hangs beautifully and that fabric is used responsibly with as little waste as possible.

Crafted by Skilled Local CMT Partners

Our garments are then entrusted to our experienced local CMT partners.

These are highly skilled teams who specialise in garment construction and have years of experience producing quality clothing. Every seam, collar, cuff, button and hem is sewn with care and attention to detail.

Working with local CMT partners allows us to maintain high standards while supporting South African craftsmanship and creating opportunities within our local manufacturing industry.

Rather than mass-producing thousands of garments, we focus on smaller production runs and made-to-order pieces, allowing us to produce more intentionally and reduce unnecessary waste.

Finishing Touches

After sewing, each garment is carefully checked before moving on to pressing and finishing.

We inspect stitching, fit, construction and overall quality to ensure every piece meets the standard we'd proudly wear ourselves.

Only once we're happy with the final garment is it prepared for its journey to you.

Why We Choose Local Manufacturing

Choosing to manufacture locally means we can work closely with our production partners throughout the process.

It allows us to:

  • Maintain consistent quality standards.

  • Support skilled South African makers.

  • Produce smaller batches with greater flexibility.

  • Reduce unnecessary overproduction.

  • Build lasting relationships with the people behind every garment.

For us, local manufacturing isn't simply about where our garments are made—it's about who makes them.

Clothing Made to Be Worn for Years

Fast fashion encourages clothing to be disposable. We believe the opposite.

We create garments that are designed to become wardrobe favourites—pieces you'll reach for again and again, year after year.

From the first sketch to the final stitch, every Dune garment represents thoughtful design, premium natural fabric, skilled craftsmanship, and a commitment to making clothing with care.

Thank you for supporting local manufacturing, skilled artisans, and a slower, more considered way of creating clothing.
